"Christ does not want nibblers of the possible, but grabbers of the impossible." - C.T. Studd "You can't steer a parked car." I remember hearing that phrase many years ago at a missions conference. It seems God enjoys giving us opportunities to exercise our faith in Him. When we step out in faith, God becomes more than just a word on a page, and we realize how much we vitally need him. When we do step out in faith, it must be based on His Word. I do not think it would be very smart if, no matter how much faith we had, we stepped out based on anything else. I think we need to take initiative, not waiting for some elusive epiphany, but actively pursuing God and living according to who He has revealed Himself to be through his Word. When we act in faith, the next step is often waiting. It can be tempting to, after we have done all that we can, to try to do more instead of simply resting in the fact that God has promised to come through. All in all, it is amazing how our faith in God is active yet patient. Abraham believed God, left his homeland, and yet waited many years before God fulfilled his promise to give him a son.
As we have embarked on this journey, desiring for God to use us as he pleases to build his church, we feel amazingly and unworthily privileged to see him working. And while we are still not sure how God's sovereignty fits in with our own choices, we are excited about the possibility of ministering in Tanzania. As of today, we have been officially accepted to go to Tanzania with NTM. We realize that we are still in the first mile of a marathon, but at least we are off and running! We hope to be able to leave for Africa next year around this time. When we arrive, we will spend the first one to two years learning Swahili. During that time we hope to become part of a local church. Once we have learned the language, there is a possibility we could spend the next two years training nationals to go into cross cultural missions. Soon after, we hope to move into a least reached people group. In the meantime, we found a nice, clean apartment to live in, and we are enjoying having our own place once again! We are also enjoying the fellowship of our church here in Idaho, and we have been helping out with some of the ministries of the church, along with starting a Bible study. We are just beginning the process of partnership development, and we are hoping to make several trips this spring and summer to visit interested churches and individuals.
