How do you explain the gospel to an animist? Where do you start?
That's what we're learning about right now in foundational teaching.
Chronological teaching starts at the beginning, in Genesis, and works through the Old Testament and on through the life of Christ, bringing out these themes to form the "big picture" of what God is doing. Teaching this way builds a foundation for the gospel, so that it will be understood in the proper context.
God's Word is one big story made up of many little stories. The main characters in this story are: God (after all, it is His-story), Satan (at one time God's most beautiful creation, the angel of light, the father of lies), and Man (created in God's image, but infected by the disease of sin, in the process of dying, needing a heart transplant).
I've really enjoyed going through this way in class. It's amazing how when you let the God's Word speak for itself, it all comes together, this world starts to make sense.
